Description:

Once the proud entrance to a bustling trade district, the Merchant’s Gatehouse now lies in ruin. Its twin towers, once symbols of prosperity and order, stand fractured and crumbling, their windows shattered, their rooftops torn away by fire and siege. Adventurers approach its broken portcullis, passing through a gate that no longer defends a city, but instead whispers of its fall.

The unfurnished version provides a stark ruin, perfect for warbands clashing in the shadow of fallen walls. Strategic cover, vertical elevation, and crumbled access points make every encounter tense and tactical.

The furnished upgrade option transforms the ruin into a lived-in space — a burned-out stronghold where merchants once slept, plotted, and traded. Tables overturned, beds broken, benches scorched: the remains of ordinary lives add narrative weight to encounters. Players might scavenge for hidden clues, recover relics from the ashes, or uncover evidence of betrayal that doomed the city.

This model is both a tactical battlefield feature and a story anchor — the fall of a kingdom captured in stone and timber.

Historical Relevance:

Medieval gatehouses often served dual purposes: defense and commerce. Merchants passed through fortified gates into bustling markets, while soldiers patrolled above. When such structures fell, they became symbols of civic collapse — a perfect echo of this ruin’s design in fantasy medieval storytelling.

Theater of Battle Applications:
Urban Sieges: Defenders rally in the upper rooms while attackers crash through the broken gates
Ambush Point: Bandits or rival adventurers lie in wait among the ruined upper floors
Quest Hub: Players search for survivors, relics, or hidden caches within its fractured chambers
Defensive Stronghold: The ruin provides high ground, choke points, and dangerous cover in skirmishes

Features:

Scale: Optimized for 28mm tabletop games
Default model: Unfurnished ruin with open interiors for flexible play
Variant option: Fully furnished with beds, tables, scatter, and market-themed props
Multi-story gameplay with removable levels and roofs
Compatible with OpenLOCK for modular expansion
Durable FDM print with crisp, paint-ready textures

Usage Ideas:
Place at the edge of a ruined city map as the entry point into a fallen district
Use the furnished version as a quest location, filled with clues and salvageable relics
Stage a desperate last stand as characters defend the broken gate from waves of attackers
Paint as scorched ruins for a recent siege, or weathered stone for an ancient collapse
